Ahmedabad: A five-day-old baby has been admitted in VS Hospital with his brain flowing out of his nose. He will be operated upon on Saturday.
Son of Natwar Pramar, the chil, born on August 15, presented a rare condition where a part of his brain has come out of his skull and is sticking out of his nose.
The pedicle is the size of the lemon and has brain tissue and also cerebro-spinal fluid. "The Ct scan showed presence of brain tissue and CSF," said attending paediatric surgeon Dr Dhiren Patel.
The child will be operated upon on Saturday by a team of doctors led by paediatric surgery head Dr N Bhatacharjee and neurosurgeon Dr. Kalpesh Shah and other team members.
Doctors said that the skull of the child will be cut upon, the pedicle with the brain tissue severed and a mesh put in place so that the brain does not spill out hencefoth in the future.
Doctors said that while the surgery is very challenging as the baby is too young to undergo a neurosurgery, if all goes well, he will not run the risk of further brain damage in the future.
